BACK Glade City
Just west of the s-curve down from Keystone Viaduct, the mainline swings back to the west past a tiny settlement called Glade City. A single crossing here, a few homes and an underpass under the WM right of way are all that make up the spot. In the late day however, a small beam of sunlight always seems to break through the trees in just such a way, as to make this forested crossing worth a visit. This westbound mixed freight has full dynamic brakes whining as it carefully descends the west slope towards Meyersdale, PA. 3 different fallen flags are represented in this shot, which truly depicts why CSX, in its early years, was the most exciting merger railroad of all time. (If I had only started shooting train videos in the eighties!)
